You should be aiming to finish walks without blisters, they don’t have to be part of hill walking.

In summary:

  • Make sure your boots fit properly and feel comfortable (Your feet may grow between Nov and May)
  • Break them in before going on a long walk
  • Put in the miles to toughen up your feet
  • Take care of your feet before you set out – cut toenails etc
  • Wear good walking socks (Warm ones for the winter and cool ones, but still padded for hot weather)
  • Change your socks every day
  • Make sure boots are correctly laced so that your heels don’t slip
  • Try to keep your feet cool and dry
  • If you feel discomfort, stop and sort it out.
